When arriving at Chambave you do not perceive the vastity of its territory. Your attention is immediately attracted by the spectacular vineyards that surround the town and that tell a story of hard and passionate work. You do not notice on the right side of the Dora river the large wedge-shaped forest that climbs first softly and then dizzily towards Mount Ruvic and Avic. Already inhabited in ancient times, the marks of Roman civilization are visibles in finds and toponyms. To the Middle Ages belongs the parish church San Lorenzo, already mentioned in 1100, but from the romanic church has been preserved only the lower part of the belltower, whereas the present one dates back to the middle of the 18th century. In the historical centre still survive some elegant buildings of the 16th century. The most interesting villages are Chandianaz, near which there is a xerothermic area on serpentine rock rich in vegetal species of steppe origin and an area unique in Aosta Valley, where grow a large number of orchids. Other interesting villages are Arlier and Margnier, starting point for excursions to Bois du Ban and Col Varotta, and finally Septumian, surrounded by a large agropastoral area.
But the real treasure of the town are vineyards! Since ancient times the wines of this area have been appreciated and the vine-growing tradition continues thanks to a modern cooperative, La Crotta de Vegneron, that produces, through innovative vinification techniques, excellent wines such as: Chambave rouge, Chambave Muscat, Chambave Muscat Flétry.
